What physiotherapy can help with
Physiotherapy treats pain, stiffness, weakness and loss of movement in muscles, joints, tendons and nerves. At Physio & More we see people with a new injury, a flare-up of an old one, or pain that has hung around for months. We also help people prepare for and recover from surgery such as knee and hip replacements or ACL reconstruction.
- Back pain and sciatica
- Neck pain and headaches
- Shoulder pain, including frozen shoulder and rotator cuff problems
- Knee pain, ligament injuries and osteoarthritis
- Hip, thigh and glute pain
- Foot and ankle pain, Achilles and calf problems
- Tennis and golfer's elbow, wrist and hand pain
- Running, rugby, rowing, football, tennis and gym injuries
Your first appointment
Your initial assessment lasts 60 minutes. Your physiotherapist will:
- Talk through your pain, your medical history, your work, your sport and what you want to get back to.
- Examine how you move, including strength, flexibility and joint testing, to find which structures are involved.
- Explain what is causing the problem in plain English and how long it is likely to take to improve.
- Start treatment in the same session, so you do not wait for a second visit.
- Give you a written plan and exercises to do at home.
If you need a scan, we can usually arrange a diagnostic ultrasound in the same building, so you get answers faster.
How we treat
Every plan is built around your body, your goals and the time you have. Depending on the problem, treatment may include:
- Hands-on treatment: soft tissue work, joint mobilisation and manipulation
- Exercise rehabilitation, with a programme for home or the gym
- Acupuncture and dry needling
- Cupping and taping
- Shockwave therapy for stubborn tendon problems
- Advice on load, sleep, work set-up and training, so the problem is less likely to come back

Physiotherapy questions
How many physio sessions will I need?
It depends on the problem and how long you have had it. Many people notice a difference in the first one to three sessions. Longer-standing or more complex problems usually need a few weeks of treatment and a home exercise plan. Your physio will give you an honest estimate at your first appointment.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can book physiotherapy directly. If you are claiming on health insurance, check whether your insurer needs a GP referral first.
Is physio covered by my health insurance?
Usually, yes. We work with Bupa, Bupa Global, AXA Health, Aviva, WPA, Healix. Bring your policy and authorisation numbers to your first appointment.
What should I wear?
Loose, comfortable clothing that lets you move freely and lets us see the area being treated. Shorts for knee, hip or ankle problems, and a vest top for shoulder or neck problems.
What if I need a scan?
We have diagnostic ultrasound in the same building, so your physio can often arrange a scan quickly. A scan of one area is £130. If you need an MRI or X-ray, we can refer you.
